Ancient of Days by William Blake

Ancient of Days Setting a Compass to the Earth (1794) illustration from Europe: a Prophecy by William Blake (1752-1827).

Advent, the beginning of the Church’s year, invites us to reflect on the very roots of our faith and of our being. This striking image by William Blake, entitled Ancient of Days, evokes the moment of creation. As the theologian Jane Williams notes, it is an image which somehow combines the ageless, timeless nature of God with a sense of dynamic, youthful energy. What strikes you in this image? How does reflecting on God as Creator speak to you?
