Tuesday 23rd March marks exactly a year since the beginning of the first UK Covid-19 lockdown. Across the country, this day is being marked as a National Day of Reflection, a day to reflect on collective loss and grief.
In the last year over 600,000 people in the UK have died, many from Covid-19. Research has found that 6 in 10 adults in the UK have lost someone in the last year whose funeral they would have attended in more normal times. 4 out of 10 adults said they had lost someone close to them.
Many people were unable to spend time with their loved ones before they died; many have been unable to meet up with family and friends for comfort and support since their bereavement; and for none, have they been able to have the funeral they may have wanted, due to restrictions on the numbers of those attending.
Praying for and supporting people at this difficult time is something we can all do, and I would like to encourage you to use Tuesday 23rd March for this purpose.
