At St Barbara’s, we believe children are a gift of God. We are always delighted when parents want to have their child baptised. This is also called a “christening”.

Why is having your child baptised important?

For your child, being baptized at a Christening marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family.

At a christening, parents thank God for his gift of life, make a decision to start their child on a journey of faith and godparents promise help and support.

The church also promises to welcome the child and to pray for the family. That is why all our christenings take place during our Sunday morning services, so that the whole church can be there to support you.

What are the next steps if you want your child baptised?

Get in touch with the vicar, Tulo Raistrick, who will be delighted to talk with you. Talk to him after one of our church services, email him on or phone him on 07869 603216.

He will arrange to come and chat with you to talk through the service, the promises you will be making, what is involved, and to arrange a date for the service.
